About Jacksonville International Airport

Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) is the main airport for Jacksonville, Florida, in the United States, and for the surrounding corner of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. It sits about 13 miles north of downtown Jacksonville.

American, Delta, United and Southwest connect Jacksonville with their hubs and with cities across the country, and JetBlue, Frontier, Allegiant, Breeze, Avelo and Sun Country add more direct routes, many of them seasonal. San Juan, Puerto Rico, is the farthest destination served year-round.

The airport has one terminal. Ticketing is on the upper level and baggage claim on the lower level, with security leading to two concourses, A and C, with 10 gates each. A new Concourse B is under construction and is due to open in early 2027.

From the airport, travelers head into downtown Jacksonville and the beaches, north to Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach, or south to Ponte Vedra and St. Augustine.

Arrival tips for Jacksonville International Airport

JAX is a domestic airport, so almost every arrival comes straight from the gate into the terminal without customs. From Concourse A or C, follow the signs back through the central building to baggage claim on the lower level.

Once you have your bags, follow the ground transportation signs outside. Taxis, rideshare, hotel shuttles and pre-booked cars each have their own signposted pickup area. The JTA Route 1 bus runs between the airport and downtown Jacksonville, where it connects with the Skyway and Greyhound, but it is slow if you are heading to the beaches or St. Augustine.

If someone is collecting you by car, note that the hourly parking garage has been closed since a fire in May 2025, so check where the airport is asking drivers to wait or park on the day.

Jacksonville is on Eastern Time. Summers are hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November.

Most travelers use a taxi, rideshare or pre-booked car, as the airport is 13 miles from downtown and the beaches are further still.
