About Lynden Pindling International Airport

Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) is the main airport of Nassau and of The Bahamas, on the western side of New Providence island. It is run by the Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD) and handled a record 4.06 million passengers in fiscal year 2023–24, most of them on flights to and from the United States.

American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines fly to cities across the United States, and Air Canada, WestJet and Porter Airlines to Canada. British Airways flies to London, Copa Airlines to Panama City, and Bahamasair links Nassau with the Family Islands and Florida.

The airport has three terminals within walking distance of each other: a U.S. Departures Terminal with US Customs and Border Protection preclearance, an International & Domestic Departures Terminal that also handles domestic arrivals, and an International Arrivals Terminal. It sits about 14 km (8.7 miles) west of downtown Nassau, roughly 20 minutes by road without traffic.

From the airport, travelers head to Cable Beach, downtown Nassau and Paradise Island, to Lyford Cay and South Ocean on the west of the island, or on to the Out Islands such as Exuma, Eleuthera and Andros.

Arrival tips for Lynden Pindling International Airport

Arriving international flights, including those from the United States, come into the International Arrivals Terminal, where Bahamas Immigration is your first stop. You need a valid passport; the Bahamas Travel Health Visa was eliminated in June 2022, and a digital arrival card is being piloted on selected flights alongside the paper immigration and customs forms.

After immigration, collect your checked bags and pass through Bahamas Customs. Declare food, plants and other restricted items to avoid delays.

Taxis wait outside each terminal and charge set fares by zone, based on two passengers, with extra charges for more passengers, extra bags and the Paradise Island bridge toll. Confirm the fare before you leave and ask whether the driver takes cards. Pre-booked drivers and hotel shuttles meet passengers outside the arrivals exit. There is no Uber or Lyft in Nassau.

Nassau is on Eastern Time and observes daylight saving time. The Bahamian dollar is at par with the US dollar, and US dollars are widely accepted.

Zone-fare taxis waiting outside the terminals are the usual choice for most travelers heading to hotels on New Providence and Paradise Island.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Nassau airport from downtown Nassau?

Lynden Pindling International Airport is about 14 km (8.7 miles) west of downtown Nassau on New Providence island. The drive to the Prince George Wharf area takes about 20 minutes without traffic, following West Bay Street and John F. Kennedy Drive. Traffic around downtown can lengthen the trip at busy times.

How far is Nassau airport from Paradise Island?

Paradise Island is about 14 miles from Lynden Pindling International Airport, and the drive takes roughly 25 to 30 minutes. The route crosses one of the bridges from Nassau to Paradise Island, and taxis add the bridge toll to the zone fare. Traffic near downtown Nassau can make the trip longer.

How many terminals does Nassau airport have?

Lynden Pindling International Airport has three terminals within walking distance of each other. The U.S. Departures Terminal handles flights to the United States, the International & Domestic Departures Terminal handles other international and domestic departures plus domestic arrivals, and the International Arrivals Terminal receives all international flights.

Does Nassau airport have US preclearance?

Yes. The U.S. Departures Terminal has a US Customs and Border Protection preclearance facility, so you complete US immigration and customs in Nassau before boarding and arrive in the United States as a domestic passenger. Global Entry, Mobile Passport Control, Automated Passport Control kiosks and TSA PreCheck are available.

Which airlines fly to Nassau airport?

US carriers at Nassau include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines. Air Canada, WestJet and Porter Airlines fly to Canada, British Airways to London, and Copa Airlines to Panama City. Bahamasair and Western Air connect Nassau with the Family Islands, and Bahamasair also flies to Florida.

How do taxis work at Nassau airport?

Taxis wait outside each terminal and charge set fares by zone rather than using meters. Zones include Cable Beach, downtown Nassau, Paradise Island, Lyford Cay and South Ocean. Fares are based on two passengers, with extra charges for additional passengers, more than two bags and oversized items. Not every taxi accepts cards.

Is there a bus from Nassau airport?

Nassau has public buses called jitneys that run in downtown Nassau and along Cable Beach, paid with exact change when you get off. The official tourism board does not list jitney service from the airport, so most visitors use a taxi, hotel shuttle, pre-booked transfer or rental car to leave the airport.

Is there Uber in Nassau, Bahamas?

No. Uber and Lyft do not operate in Nassau or on Paradise Island, according to the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board. Arriving travelers use the zone-fare taxis outside the terminals, a pre-booked private transfer, a hotel shuttle where offered, or a rental car from one of the companies at the airport.

Do I need a Travel Health Visa to enter The Bahamas?

No. The Bahamas eliminated its Travel Health Visa in June 2022. Visitors need a valid passport and complete the immigration and customs forms on arrival. In May 2026 The Bahamas began piloting a digital arrival card on selected flights, while the paper process remains in place for everyone else.

How do I get from Nassau airport to Cable Beach?

Cable Beach lies along the north shore between the airport and downtown Nassau, and it is one of the set taxi zones from the airport, so the fare is fixed before you leave. Some Cable Beach resorts also run airport shuttles for guests, and pre-booked transfers and rental cars are other options.

What currency and time zone does Nassau use?

The Bahamian dollar is pegged at par with the US dollar, and US dollars are widely accepted in Nassau, so many visitors do not change money. Nassau uses Eastern Time, UTC−5, and observes daylight saving time, moving to UTC−4 from March to November, the same as New York and Miami.

Who operates Nassau airport and how busy is it?

Lynden Pindling International Airport is operated by the Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD), a government-owned company. It handled a record 4.06 million passengers in fiscal year 2023–24, which ran from July 2023 to June 2024. About 2.86 million of them were travelers on flights to and from the United States.
