About Charlotte Douglas International Airport

Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) serves Charlotte, North Carolina, and the surrounding region. It sits about 6 miles (10 km) west of uptown Charlotte and handled more than 50 million passengers in 2025.

CLT is one of American Airlines' biggest hubs: American and its regional partners carry almost nine in ten passengers, with flights across the United States and to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe. United, Southwest, Delta, Frontier, Air Canada, Lufthansa, Volaris and Etihad also fly here.

The airport has one terminal with five concourses, A to E, and 124 gates. International arrivals without preclearance are processed at Concourse D. A $2.5 billion expansion, Destination CLT, is enlarging the terminal and concourses and adding a fourth parallel runway.

From the airport, travelers head to uptown Charlotte, SouthPark, Ballantyne, Lake Norman and the wider Carolinas.

Arrival tips for Charlotte Douglas International Airport

All flights at Charlotte use one terminal, so baggage claim and ground transportation are in the same building whichever concourse you land at.

If you arrive on an international flight, you clear US Customs and Border Protection at Concourse D before baggage claim. If you are eligible, Global Entry or Mobile Passport Control can shorten the line.

Domestic passengers walk from their concourse to baggage claim in the main terminal.

Follow the signs for ground transportation. Rental cars are on the lower three levels of the hourly parking deck, and CATS Route 5, the Sprinter, runs to uptown. If you booked a private transfer, follow the meeting point in your confirmation. Construction for the Destination CLT expansion can change walking routes and curb areas, so allow a little extra time.
