Airport Transportation in Santa Cruz de la Sierra

Pre-booked private transportation takes you directly from Viru Viru International Airport to your hotel, resort or vacation rental.

After immigration, baggage claim and customs, continue outside the terminal to the meeting area named in your confirmation. Your vehicle is reserved only for the passengers on your reservation: unlike a shared shuttle, it makes no extra hotel stops for other travelers, and the price is per vehicle, not per person.

Our airport transportation in Santa Cruz de la Sierra runs from Viru Viru International Airport to hotels, homes and offices across the city, from the historic center around Plaza 24 de Septiembre to Equipetrol and the gated communities of Urubó.

Santa Cruz de la Sierra Airport Transfers

Our Santa Cruz de la Sierra airport transfers start in the arrivals hall, where your driver waits with a sign showing your name; check your confirmation in case it names a meeting point just outside the exit. We track your flight, so the pickup follows your real landing time.

Choose a vehicle sized for your party, from a sedan for a business trip to a van for a family or group, and each Santa Cruz de la Sierra airport transfer goes door to door to your hotel, apartment or home. Going on to Samaipata? Enter the address in the booking form: when a vehicle is available for that route, the price shows before you pay; if it does not, contact us before you fly.

Santa Cruz de la Sierra Airport Shuttle

Our Santa Cruz de la Sierra airport shuttle is a private van for your party only: it leaves as soon as you have your bags and goes straight to your address, with no stops for other passengers. There is room for suitcases and boxes, so it suits families visiting relatives, business teams and groups traveling together.

Landing at Santa Cruz de la Sierra Airport

Viru Viru International Airport (VVI) is north of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, toward Warnes. It is Bolivia's main international gateway and the hub of Boliviana de Aviación (BoA), and passengers use one terminal with separate domestic and international areas.

International arrivals pass immigration and then customs. After collecting your bags you walk out to the arrivals hall, where car rental counters, ATMs and exchange desks are located and pre-booked drivers wait.

Bolivia is on UTC−4 all year and does not observe daylight saving time.

Local notes

Visa rules

Bolivia removed the tourist visa requirement for US citizens in December 2025 (Supreme Decree 5497), but some nationalities still need a visa, so check with a Bolivian consulate before you fly.

Low altitude

Unlike La Paz, Santa Cruz sits at low altitude in the tropical lowlands, so heat and humidity are the main adjustment on arrival.

Gated communities

Many homes in Urubó and other districts are inside gated condominiums. Give the condominium name, the lot or house number and any gate instructions when you book.

Boliviano currency

Bolivia uses the boliviano (BOB), and ATMs and exchange desks are in the terminal.

Santa Cruz de la Sierra Airport Transportation FAQs

Where will my driver meet me at Viru Viru Airport?

Your driver waits in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name. Check your confirmation in case it names a specific meeting point just outside the exit.

How far is Santa Cruz de la Sierra Airport from the city center?

Viru Viru is about 17 km (11 miles) north of central Santa Cruz de la Sierra. The drive usually takes 30 to 50 minutes, depending on traffic and where in the city you are staying.

Is Viru Viru the same airport as El Trompillo?

No. Viru Viru replaced El Trompillo, which is closer to downtown, as the city's main airport in 1983. International flights and most domestic flights use Viru Viru (VVI), and this page books rides from VVI.

Can you take me to a hotel in the city center or Equipetrol?

Yes. We drive you door to door to hotels and apartments around Plaza 24 de Septiembre, in Equipetrol and elsewhere in the city. Give us the hotel name or full address when you book.

Can you take me to a gated community in Urubó?

Yes. Give us the condominium name, the lot or house number and any gate instructions when you book, so your driver is let in without delay.

Can you take me to Samaipata?

Samaipata is a hill town west of Santa Cruz, the base for the El Fuerte archaeological site and Amboró National Park. Going on to Samaipata? Enter the address in the booking form: when a vehicle is available for that route, the price shows before you pay; if it does not, contact us before you fly.

Which airlines fly to Viru Viru Airport?

Boliviana de Aviación (BoA) is the main airline, with domestic and international routes. Air Europa, Avianca, Copa Airlines, LATAM Airlines, GOL, Aerolíneas Argentinas and Paranair fly to Madrid, Bogotá, Panama City, Lima, Santiago, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Asunción, and EcoJet and TAMep fly domestic routes.

Do I need a visa to enter Bolivia at Viru Viru?

It depends on your nationality. Bolivia removed the tourist visa requirement for US citizens and several other countries under Supreme Decree 5497 of December 2025, but citizens of some countries still need a visa. Check with a Bolivian consulate before you travel.

Is Santa Cruz at high altitude like La Paz?

No. Santa Cruz sits at low altitude in the tropical lowlands, so heat and humidity, not altitude, are the main adjustment on arrival.

Should I buy transportation from agents inside the terminal?

There is no need. Your ride is already booked before you land, and your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a sign showing your name.

What happens if my flight to Santa Cruz de la Sierra is delayed?

We track the arrival of the flight on your reservation, so your driver adjusts to a delay. If your flight number, date or airline changes, or your flight is canceled, update it in Manage your booking so we can move your pickup.

Can I book a ride back to Viru Viru Airport?

Yes. Book a return from your hotel or home and give us your flight time, so your pickup leaves enough time for check-in, security and rush-hour traffic.

What time zone and currency does Santa Cruz use?

Bolivia is on UTC−4 all year, with no daylight saving time. The currency is the boliviano (BOB), and ATMs and exchange desks are in the terminal.

Is Airport Transportation the same as Viru Viru International Airport?

No. Airport Transportation is a private transfer service that books rides from VVI; we are not the airport or its operator. For terminals, airlines and other ways to get around, see our Viru Viru International Airport page.

Do drivers speak English?

Yes. While their English may not be native-level, drivers have the skills to communicate with passengers.

Are tips mandatory?

Tips are not mandatory but are highly recommended; drivers earn them through service quality.
