Landing at Stansted Airport
London Stansted lies north-east of London, in Uttlesford, Essex, beside the M11.
Stansted has one terminal, with check-in, arrivals and departures under the same roof, so there is no terminal to choose. From some gates a transit train or walkway takes you back to the main terminal. Most flights are short-haul across Europe, with Ryanair, easyJet and Jet2 the largest airlines.
You clear UK passport control first; many visitors can use the eGates. The UK is on GMT in winter and BST (GMT+1) in summer.
- Entry to the UK: the UK is not in the Schengen area. Unless you hold a British or Irish passport or a UK visa, you need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before you travel; since 25 February 2026 that includes EU and EEA citizens. Apply online well ahead, and allow time for the border queue when you choose your pickup time.
- Forecourt charges: the drop-off area next to the terminal charges a fee, so drivers often wait in the short-stay car park; follow the meeting point in your confirmation.
- Early and late flights: many flights leave Stansted at dawn or land close to midnight, when trains are fewer. A pre-booked transfer is waiting whatever the hour.
- Currency: the UK uses pounds sterling.

How far is Stansted Airport from central London?
Stansted is about 55 km northeast of central London. The drive usually takes 60 to 80 minutes to the City and longer to the West End, depending on traffic.
How many terminals does Stansted have?
One. Arrivals and departures are in the same terminal building, so your driver always waits in the same arrivals hall.

Yes. Harwich, for ferries and cruises, is usually 70 to 90 minutes from Stansted. Give us your sailing time so we plan the pickup around it.
Can I book a transfer between Stansted and Heathrow or Gatwick?
Yes. Heathrow is usually 75 to 110 minutes away around the M25, and Gatwick longer. There is no direct train, so a private transfer avoids several changes with your bags.
Is a private transfer better than the Stansted Express or a taxi?
The Stansted Express runs to Liverpool Street in about 50 minutes, which is quick if you are staying nearby and travel light. A private transfer is booked in advance at a fixed price per vehicle and takes you door to door, which suits families, groups, heavy luggage and early or late flights.
Can I book a return transfer to Stansted?
Yes. Book a round trip, or a one-way pickup from your hotel. Your driver drops you at the terminal forecourt.
What happens if my flight to Stansted is delayed?

Yes. Cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before your pick-up and you are refunded in full. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before service are not refundable.
Do drivers speak English?
Yes. While their English may not be native-level, drivers have the skills to communicate with passengers.
Are tips mandatory?
Tips are not mandatory but are highly recommended; drivers earn them through service quality.
What currencies are accepted?
All prices are in USD. If your card is in another currency, your bank converts the charge at its own exchange rate.
Are pets allowed?
