About Dallas Fort Worth International Airport

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) serves Dallas, Fort Worth and the whole North Texas region of the United States. It sits between the two cities, about 16 miles (26 km) northwest of downtown Dallas and 20 miles (32 km) northeast of downtown Fort Worth, and opened in 1974.

DFW is American Airlines' largest hub, the second-largest single airline hub in the world, with American flying from every terminal to destinations across the US and to Latin America, Europe and Asia. The airport is among the busiest in the world, with more than 80 million passengers a year.

There are five terminals, A, B, C, D and E, arranged in a horseshoe and linked inside security by the Skylink train. Terminal D is the main international terminal, with US customs and the Grand Hyatt hotel. A sixth, Terminal F, is under construction, with its first gates due in 2027.

Rail lines run from the airport to both cities: DART's Orange Line to Dallas and Las Colinas from Terminal A, and TEXRail to downtown Fort Worth from Terminal B.

Arrival tips for Dallas Fort Worth International Airport

Check which terminal you land at before you leave the plane: A, B, C, D or E. Each terminal has its own baggage claim and pickup areas, and drivers meet you at your terminal.

If you arrive on an international flight, you clear US Customs and Border Protection, usually in Terminal D, the main international terminal. If you are eligible, Global Entry or Mobile Passport Control can shorten the line. Then collect your bags and pass through customs.

Domestic passengers go straight to baggage claim in their arrival terminal.

To move between terminals inside security, take the Skylink train; trips average about seven minutes. Outside, follow the signs for taxis, ride apps, rental car shuttles and trains. DART's Orange Line leaves from Terminal A and TEXRail from Terminal B. DFW is spread out, so confirm your terminal with your driver before you walk out.
