L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA) is the only airport in Bermuda, the British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic. It sits on St. David's Island at the eastern end of the island chain, in St. George's Parish, about 11 km (7 miles) northeast of Hamilton as the crow flies.
Most flights come from the US East Coast and Canada. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue and United fly from cities such as New York, Boston, Newark, Atlanta, Charlotte and Miami, Air Canada Rouge flies from Toronto, British Airways flies from London Heathrow, and the local airline BermudAir links Bermuda with several cities in the US and Canada.
All flights use one passenger terminal, which opened in December 2020 and replaced the old terminal. It has separate departure areas for US flights, which clear US customs and immigration in Bermuda before boarding, and for other international flights.
From the airport the Causeway leads west to the main island. The drive to Hamilton takes about 25 minutes, while the historic town of St. George's is close by to the north. The Royal Naval Dockyard cruise port at the island's western tip is about an hour away, and hotels along the South Shore in Paget, Warwick and Southampton lie in between.

Frequently asked questions
How far is Bermuda airport from Hamilton?
L.F. Wade International Airport is on St. David's Island, about 11 km (7 miles) northeast of Hamilton as the crow flies. By road the drive over the Causeway and along the North Shore takes about 25 minutes, depending on traffic. Taxis and pre-booked cars wait outside the terminal, while public buses do not carry suitcases.
Is Bermuda airport the same as L.F. Wade International Airport?
Yes. L.F. Wade International Airport, code BDA, is the only airport in Bermuda, so every flight to the island lands there. It was called Bermuda International Airport until 2007, when it was renamed after the Bermudian politician L. Frederick Wade, and many travelers still call it Bermuda Airport.
Can visitors rent a car at Bermuda airport?
No. Visitors are not allowed to rent cars in Bermuda, and there are no car rental desks at the airport. Most visitors leave the airport by taxi or private transfer, then get around by taxi, bus, ferry or a rented scooter once they reach their hotel. Scooter renters must be 18 or over.
How do I get from Bermuda airport to my hotel?
Most visitors take a taxi or a pre-booked private transfer. Metered taxis wait at the stand just outside arrivals and go door to door across the island. Public buses run between Hamilton and St. George's past the airport, but suitcases and large luggage are not allowed on board, so buses only suit travelers with hand luggage.
How long does it take to get from Bermuda airport to Dockyard?
The Royal Naval Dockyard, where most cruise ships dock, is at the far western tip of Bermuda, about an hour's drive from the airport. Taxis and pre-booked transfers go door to door to the cruise terminal at King's Wharf. The bus also reaches Dockyard, but it does not take suitcases and requires exact fare in coins.
How many terminals does Bermuda airport have?
Bermuda has one passenger terminal, which opened in December 2020 and replaced the old building. All arrivals come through the same immigration hall, baggage claim and arrivals hall. For departures it splits into a US area, where US preclearance takes place, and an international area for flights to Canada and the UK.
Which airlines fly to Bermuda?
American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue and United fly from US cities including New York, Boston, Newark, Atlanta, Charlotte and Miami. Air Canada Rouge flies from Toronto and British Airways from London Heathrow. BermudAir, the local airline, links Bermuda with cities such as Baltimore, Boston, Halifax, Montréal, Toronto and White Plains.
What do I need to enter Bermuda?
Visitors need a valid passport, a return or onward ticket and a Bermuda Arrival Card, which is free and filled in online before you fly. Each family also completes one customs declaration form, handed out on the plane. The travel authorization used during the pandemic ended in November 2022. Visa rules depend on your nationality, so check before you travel.
Is there US preclearance at Bermuda airport?
Yes. Passengers flying to the United States clear US customs and immigration at L.F. Wade International Airport before boarding. The US departures area has its own preclearance facility, so on landing in the US you arrive as a domestic passenger. Allow extra time for preclearance when you plan your trip back to the airport.
What currency is used in Bermuda?
Bermuda uses the Bermuda dollar, which is at par with the US dollar and uses the same $ symbol. US dollars are accepted everywhere on the island, though change is usually given in Bermuda dollars. ATMs are in the terminal building, and cards are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants and shops.
What time zone is Bermuda in?
Bermuda is on Atlantic Time, UTC-4, and moves to UTC-3 for daylight saving time from March to November, on the same dates as the United States. That keeps it one hour ahead of New York all year. Set your watch on landing, as pickup and check-in times are given in local time.
Is there a lounge at Bermuda airport?
Yes. Primeclass runs lounges in both departure areas: one in the US departures area after preclearance and security, and one in the international departures area for flights to Canada and the UK. Entry depends on your ticket class or lounge membership, and walk-in guests can pay to use them.
Where can I park at Bermuda airport?
Short-term parking for stays of up to two hours is directly in front of the terminal. Long-term parking is further away, near the old terminal building. Since visitors cannot rent cars in Bermuda, the parking is used mostly by residents and people meeting or dropping off passengers.
