About Bergen Airport, Flesland

Bergen Airport, Flesland (BGO) is the airport for Bergen, Norway's second-largest city, and for the fjord region of Vestland on the country's west coast. It stands at Flesland, about 16 km (10 miles) south-west of Bergen city center, a drive of about 20 minutes in normal traffic.

Norwegian, SAS and Widerøe fly the most routes, linking Bergen with Oslo, Stavanger, Trondheim, Tromsø and many smaller Norwegian airports, and with Copenhagen, Stockholm and cities across Europe. KLM, Lufthansa, Air France, Icelandair, Finnair and Wizz Air add flights to Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, Reykjavik, Helsinki and Poland, with more seasonal routes in summer. The airport handled about 6.7 million passengers in 2025.

Passengers use one terminal building: the extension opened in August 2017 for check-in, security and domestic gates, joined to the older building that handles international flights. A separate helicopter terminal serves offshore traffic.

From the airport, most travelers head into Bergen for Bryggen, the Fish Market and hotels in the center, or to the cruise quays near the old town. Others continue into the fjords of Vestland.

Arrival tips for Bergen Airport, Flesland

Flights from Norway and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks. If you fly in from outside the Schengen area, such as the UK, you go through passport control, where non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System.

Domestic and international flights have separate baggage claim areas. Norway is not in the EU customs union, so international arrivals pass through customs, with a green channel for nothing to declare and a red one for goods over the allowance; check the alcohol and tobacco limits before you shop.

After customs you come out into the arrivals hall, where pre-booked drivers meet passengers. For the city, follow the signs downstairs to the Bybanen light rail station on the lower floor, or go outside to the Flybussen airport bus stops and the taxi stand just outside the terminal. Taxi booking kiosks are at the stand and at the exit of the domestic arrivals area.

Norway is on Central European Time and uses the Norwegian krone.

Ground transportation

Bybanen is the cheapest way into the city; Flybussen is quicker to the center, and a taxi or pre-booked car is easiest with luggage or for the cruise quays.
