Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is the main international airport of Copenhagen, Denmark, located in Kastrup on the island of Amager. It handled a record 32.4 million passengers in 2025, with 62 airlines flying 367 routes.

SAS uses the airport as its main hub and Norwegian is the second-largest carrier. Check-in is in Terminals 2 and 3, which share one security checkpoint and one airside area; all arrivals come out in Terminal 3. The metro and train stations sit at Terminal 3.

The airport lies about 8 km south of central Copenhagen, around 15 minutes by metro or train. From here, travelers head into Copenhagen, across the Øresund Bridge to Malmö in Sweden, and by train to Helsingborg, Gothenburg, Odense and Aarhus.

Arrival tips for Copenhagen Kastrup Airport

If you fly in from outside the Schengen Area, you pass passport control before baggage claim; flights from Schengen countries skip it. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. All arriving passengers collect their bags and pass customs in Terminal 3, then walk out into the arrivals hall.

From the arrivals hall, the metro and train stations are inside Terminal 3; trains to Copenhagen Central Station leave from tracks 1 and 2. Taxis wait directly outside Terminal 3, where there is also a rank reserved for taxis to Sweden. Use the official taxi rank rather than accepting offers of rides inside the terminal.

Denmark is on Central European Time (UTC+1, UTC+2 in summer) and uses the Danish krone (DKK), not the euro. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, and the weather is mild but often wet and windy.

Bus

Movia city buses, including line 5C, and long-distance coaches serve the airport. Buses are slower than the metro or train, so use the Rejseplanen journey planner to check routes.

Moving between terminals

  1. 1

    Walk between terminals

Terminals 2 and 3 sit next to each other and share one security checkpoint, so you can walk between them landside in a few minutes.

  2. 2

    Shared airside area

After security, all piers (A to F) are in one connected airside area, so connecting passengers do not change terminals.

  3. 3

Frequently asked questions

How far is Copenhagen airport from the city center?

Copenhagen Airport is about 8 km south of central Copenhagen, in Kastrup on the island of Amager. The M2 metro reaches Kongens Nytorv and Nørreport in about 15 minutes, and trains take about 15 minutes to Copenhagen Central Station. Taxi travel time depends on traffic.

Is Copenhagen airport in Copenhagen?

Not quite. Copenhagen Airport is in Kastrup, part of Tårnby Municipality, just south of the City of Copenhagen on the island of Amager, with a small part in Dragør. It is close enough that the M2 metro links it directly to the city center, and its formal name is Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup.

How many terminals does Copenhagen airport have?

Copenhagen Airport uses Terminals 2 and 3 for check-in. They sit side by side, share one security checkpoint and lead to a single airside area with piers A to F. Terminal 1, the former domestic terminal, stopped handling departures in March 2015, when all flights moved to Terminals 2 and 3.

Which terminal do I arrive at in Copenhagen?

All arriving passengers come out at Terminal 3, whatever the airline. Customs, baggage claim and the arrivals hall are in Terminal 3, as are the metro and train stations. For departures, you can check in at Terminal 2 or Terminal 3 depending on your airline, then pass the same shared security checkpoint.

Where are the taxis at Copenhagen airport?

The taxi pick-up point is directly outside Terminal 3, next to the arrivals hall. There is also a rank reserved for taxis going to Sweden, though Danish taxis also accept fares across the Øresund Bridge. Taxis usually take credit cards, and some companies add a fee for trips starting at the airport.

How do I take the metro from Copenhagen airport?

The M2 metro station is at Terminal 3, a short walk from the arrivals hall. Trains run every 4 to 6 minutes through the day and evening and reach Kongens Nytorv and Nørreport in about 15 minutes, with longer intervals at night. Use the Rejseplanen journey planner to check routes and connections.

Can I use Uber at Copenhagen airport?

No. Uber does not operate in Denmark, so app-based rides at Copenhagen Airport run through licensed taxis. Bolt, which bought the Danish taxi app Viggo in 2025, is one option, and you can also take a taxi directly from the pick-up point outside Terminal 3.

Do I need a visa or entry form to fly into Copenhagen?

Denmark is in the Schengen Area, so visa rules depend on your nationality and travelers from outside Schengen pass passport control on arrival. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026. The planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation.

How do I get from Copenhagen airport to Malmö?

Take an Öresundståg train from the airport station under Terminal 3. Trains run about every 20 minutes and reach Malmö in about 20 minutes after crossing the Øresund Bridge. Carry a passport or valid ID card, because ID checks can take place at Hyllie, the first stop in Sweden, or on the train.

Can I take a train from Copenhagen airport to other Danish cities?

Yes. The airport station under Terminal 3 has direct DSB trains toward Odense, Aarhus, Aalborg and Esbjerg, so you can travel across Denmark without going through central Copenhagen. SJ trains also stop at the airport on their way to Stockholm and Gothenburg in Sweden.

What time zone and currency does Copenhagen use?

Copenhagen is on Central European Time, UTC+1, and switches to UTC+2 for daylight saving time in summer. Denmark uses the Danish krone (DKK), not the euro, and cards are accepted almost everywhere. The climate is mild, but rain and wind are common in every season.

Who operates Copenhagen airport and how busy is it?

Copenhagen Airport is run by Copenhagen Airports A/S (Københavns Lufthavne), which also runs Roskilde Airport. It handled a record 32.4 million passengers in 2025, 2.5 million more than in 2024, with 62 airlines and 367 routes. SAS and Norwegian are its two largest airlines.
