Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is one of the three main airports serving New York City, along with JFK and LaGuardia. It straddles the cities of Newark and Elizabeth in New Jersey, about 9 miles (14 km) west-southwest of Manhattan and 4.5 miles south of downtown Newark.
United Airlines carries about two-thirds of Newark's passengers and uses the airport as a global hub, with flights across the United States and to Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. Air Canada, American, Delta, JetBlue, Alaska and many foreign airlines, including British Airways, Lufthansa and Aer Lingus, also fly here.
The airport has three terminals. The new Terminal A opened in 2023, Terminal B handles most foreign airlines and international arrivals, and Terminal C belongs to United. The free AirTrain links them with the parking areas and the Newark Liberty International Airport rail station.
From the station, NJ Transit and Amtrak trains reach New York Penn Station and the rest of the Northeast Corridor, and express buses run into Midtown Manhattan. Most travelers head on to Manhattan, northern New Jersey or Newark itself.

Arrival tips for Newark Liberty International Airport
Check which terminal you land at before you leave the plane: Terminal A, B or C. Each has its own arrivals area, and drivers meet you at your terminal.

Most international arrivals on foreign airlines, and some United and JetBlue flights, are processed in Terminal B's international arrivals hall. If you are eligible, Global Entry or Mobile Passport Control can shorten the line. Then collect your bags and pass through customs.
Domestic passengers go straight to baggage claim in their terminal.
Leaving the terminal, follow the signs for taxis, ride apps, shuttles and the AirTrain. The AirTrain is free between terminals, parking and rental cars, and runs to the airport rail station for NJ Transit and Amtrak trains. Use only the official taxi stand or your pre-booked driver.
