About Tweed-New Haven Airport

Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) is the airport of New Haven, Connecticut, in the United States, serving the city, Yale University and the towns along the Connecticut shoreline. It is the main base of Avelo Airlines, which flies nonstop to about 28 destinations, among them Orlando, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Atlanta, Charlotte/Concord, Nashville, Dallas/Fort Worth and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Breeze Airways adds flights to Florida, the Carolinas and Virginia. All scheduled flights are domestic.

Passengers use one terminal on the west side of the airfield. A new East Terminal and a longer runway are part of the airport's expansion plan; until they open, every flight arrives and departs from the current building.

The airport lies about 3 miles (5 km) southeast of downtown New Haven, on the border with East Haven and close to I-95. The drive to the New Haven Green and the Yale campus usually takes 10 to 15 minutes. From the airport, travelers head to downtown New Haven, Wooster Square, East Rock, West Haven, Hamden, and shoreline towns such as Branford, Guilford and Milford.

Arrival tips for Tweed-New Haven Airport

All scheduled flights at Tweed-New Haven Airport are domestic, so there is no immigration or customs on arrival. You leave the aircraft through a jet bridge at some gates, or down a ground-level boarding ramp at others, and walk into the terminal.

Follow the signs to baggage claim, where a baggage crew member by the carousel can help you lift heavy bags. The terminal is small, so the walk from the gate to the carousel and out to the Arrivals curb is short.

Outside, M7 Ride taxis stage at the Arrivals area before each flight, and Uber and Lyft are authorized to pick up passengers. An accessible pick-up zone sits next to the Arrivals curb, signposted Accessible Pick-Up. Rental car counters for Avis and Budget serve the airport; hours follow the flight schedule. If someone is collecting you, note that street parking around the airport is prohibited. New Haven is on Eastern Time.
