About Toronto Pearson International Airport

Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is the main airport for Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario, Canada. It sits in Mississauga, north-west of downtown Toronto, about 22 to 27 km by road depending on where you are going.

Air Canada has its largest hub here, and WestJet, Porter and Air Transat also fly from Pearson, alongside many US, European, Asian, Latin American and Caribbean airlines. Flights reach cities across Canada and the United States, with long-haul routes to Europe, Asia and the Middle East and holiday flights to Mexico and the Caribbean.

The airport has two passenger terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, linked by the free Terminal Link train. Terminal 1 handles Air Canada and most Star Alliance airlines; Terminal 3 handles WestJet and many other carriers. Both have US preclearance, so passengers bound for the United States clear US immigration and customs before boarding.

From the airport, most travelers head into downtown Toronto and the waterfront, to the business districts of Mississauga and North York, or further on to Niagara Falls, Hamilton and cottage country.

Arrival tips for Toronto Pearson International Airport

If you arrive from outside Canada, you clear Canadian border services first: many travelers complete their declaration at the primary inspection kiosks or with Advance Declaration in the ArriveCAN app, then speak to a border officer. Visitors from visa-exempt countries need an approved eTA before flying to Canada.

After baggage claim, exit through the customs hall into the arrivals level of your terminal, Terminal 1 or Terminal 3. Check which one your airline uses before anyone comes to meet you; the free Terminal Link train connects the two.

Outside, follow the signs to the ground transportation area: licensed taxis and limousines wait at the official stands, rideshare apps use signposted pickup zones, and pre-booked drivers meet passengers in the arrivals area. The UP Express train to Union Station leaves from Terminal 1. Decline rides from anyone approaching you inside the terminal.

Toronto is on Eastern Time. Winters are cold and snowy, so keep a warm layer in your carry-on.

Ground transportation

The UP Express train is quick to downtown if you travel light; a taxi, limousine or pre-booked car is easier with luggage or for the suburbs.

Which terminal does my airline use at Toronto Pearson?

Air Canada and most Star Alliance airlines use Terminal 1. WestJet, Porter, Air Transat and many other airlines use Terminal 3. Your boarding pass or the airline's app shows the terminal; the free Terminal Link train connects the two.

How do I get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3?

Do I need an eTA to fly into Toronto?

Most visitors from visa-exempt countries need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before flying to Canada; US citizens do not. Travelers from other countries may need a visa. Check the Government of Canada's requirements for your passport before you book.

Where do I get a taxi at Toronto Pearson?

Licensed taxis and airport limousines wait at the official stands outside the arrivals level of Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Rideshare apps use separate signposted pickup zones. Ignore anyone offering rides inside the terminal.
