Airport Transportation in Auckland
Pre-booked private transportation takes you directly from Auckland Airport to your hotel, resort or vacation rental.
After immigration, baggage claim and customs, continue outside the terminal to the meeting area named in your confirmation. Your vehicle is reserved only for the passengers on your reservation: unlike a shared shuttle, it makes no extra hotel stops for other travelers, and the price is per vehicle, not per person.
Our Auckland airport transportation takes you from Māngere to hotels and apartments in the city center, the Viaduct Harbour and Wynyard Quarter, to Ponsonby, Parnell and Newmarket, across the Harbour Bridge to Takapuna and the North Shore, and to the cruise wharves and the downtown ferry terminal for Waiheke Island.
Auckland Airport Transfers
Auckland airport transfers start inside the arrivals hall, where your driver waits with a name sign once you have cleared biosecurity and customs, or at the Domestic Terminal if you fly in from elsewhere in New Zealand. We track your flight, so the pickup follows your real landing time, and the price is fixed per vehicle and agreed before you fly, from a sedan for two to a van for a family or group with luggage.
Each Auckland airport transfer goes door to door to your hotel, apartment or vacation rental in the city or the suburbs, to Princes Wharf for your cruise, or to the ferry terminal for Waiheke Island. Heading further, to Hamilton, Rotorua or the Bay of Islands? Enter your address in the booking form to see whether a transfer is offered for that route.
Auckland Airport Shuttle
Our Auckland airport shuttle is a private van for your party only, not a shared shuttle that stops at other addresses on the way into the city. It leaves as soon as you have your bags, with room for suitcases, strollers, golf clubs and hiking gear, and suits families, groups and cruise passengers heading to the wharves.
Landing at Auckland Airport
Auckland Airport (AKL) is in Māngere, south of the city, beside the Manukau Harbour. It has two terminals about 500 m apart: every international flight uses the International Terminal, and flights within New Zealand use the Domestic Terminal, linked by a free transfer bus and a walkway. A new domestic jet terminal joined to the International Terminal is under construction and expected to open in 2029.
On an international arrival you pass through passport control, where eligible passports can use the eGates, then collect your bags and go through biosecurity, where officers and detector dogs check what you declared. Travelers with nothing to declare can use the express lane before walking into the public arrivals hall.
New Zealand is on NZST (UTC+12) and switches to NZDT (UTC+13) from late September to early April. It uses the New Zealand dollar.
NZeTA and visitor levy
Most visitors from visa-waiver countries, including the US and UK, need a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before boarding and pay the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) with it. Australian citizens do not need one; check the visa rules for your passport before you fly.
Biosecurity declaration
Every traveler, children included, completes the New Zealand Traveller Declaration, ideally online before landing. Declare all food and used outdoor gear such as hiking boots, tents and fishing equipment: an undeclared risk item brings an instant NZ$400 fine, even by mistake.
Two terminals
International and domestic flights use separate terminals, so give your flight number and arrival terminal when you book, especially if you connect from a domestic flight.
Driving on the left
New Zealand drives on the left, and seat belts are required for every passenger.
Before you fly to Auckland
How Auckland Airport pickup works
- 1
Clear arrivals
Immigration, baggage claim, then customs. Representatives can't enter those areas.
- 2
Meet your representative
At the meeting point in your confirmation. Check the company name before getting in.
- 3
Go straight there
No other stops, no other passengers.
Meet inside international arrivals
At the International Terminal, pre-booked drivers meet passengers inside the arrivals hall after biosecurity and customs. Some operators use the Transport Hub priority zone or the off-site transfer zone instead, so check your confirmation.
Domestic Terminal
Domestic flights land at a separate terminal about 500 m away, where taxi and shuttle ranks are outside door 4; confirm your arrival terminal before your driver sets off.
Don't accept a ride from someone claiming to know your booking. Check the company name and reservation details before getting in.
Return trips and flight changes
Going back to the airport
Transportation can also be booked from your hotel, resort or vacation rental to Auckland Airport. Your pickup time covers the drive plus check-in, security and border procedures, and your airline's instructions come first. Give the correct departure time and terminal when you book.
If your flight changes
We monitor the arrival of the flight on your reservation, but can't find you on a different one. If any of these change, update them in Manage your booking:

Where will my driver meet me at Auckland Airport?
On international flights, inside the arrivals hall of the International Terminal, holding a sign with your name, after biosecurity and customs. On domestic flights, your driver meets you at the Domestic Terminal; your confirmation gives the exact meeting point.
How far is Auckland Airport from the city center?
Auckland Airport is about 21 km (13 miles) south of the city center, usually a 30 to 45 minute drive and longer at weekday rush hour. Hamilton is about 1 hour 30 minutes south, Rotorua about 3 hours and the Bay of Islands about 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours north.
Can you take me to the Viaduct Harbour or the cruise terminal?
Yes. We drive door to door to hotels and apartments around the Viaduct Harbour and Wynyard Quarter, and to Princes Wharf and Queens Wharf for cruise ships. Give us your ship's boarding time when you book.
Can you take me to the ferry for Waiheke Island?
Yes, we drive you to the port: the Downtown Ferry Terminal on Quay Street for passenger ferries, or Half Moon Bay for the car ferry. Give us your sailing time when you book so the pickup leaves a comfortable margin.
Can you take me to the North Shore?
Yes. We drive across the Harbour Bridge to Takapuna, Devonport, Albany and the rest of the North Shore. Give the full street address when you book.
Can you take me to Hamilton or Rotorua?
Hamilton and Rotorua are south of Auckland, in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty. Enter your address in the booking form to see whether a transfer is offered for that route; if it is not, contact us before you fly.
Can you take me to the Bay of Islands?
Paihia, Russell and the Bay of Islands are in Northland, a long drive north of Auckland. Enter your address in the booking form to see whether a transfer is offered for that route; if it is not, contact us before you fly.
Which terminal will I arrive at in Auckland?
All international flights arrive at the International Terminal, and flights within New Zealand at the Domestic Terminal, about 500 m away. Give your flight number when you book so your driver goes to the right one.
Do you drive to vacation rentals and private homes in Auckland?
Yes. Give the full street address and any gate, apartment or access details. Where a driveway is steep or narrow, your driver stops at the nearest safe point.
Can I book a transfer for a late-night or early-morning flight?
Yes. Give your flight number and landing time when you book, and your driver is scheduled for that arrival, including flights that land after midnight or before dawn.
Should I accept rides from people offering transportation inside Auckland Airport?
There is no need. Booking ahead gives you a confirmed vehicle and a meeting point before you land. If someone approaches you in arrivals, check the company name against your confirmation before getting in.
What do I need to declare when I land in Auckland?
Declare all food and used outdoor gear such as hiking boots, tents and fishing equipment on the New Zealand Traveller Declaration. Undeclared risk items bring an instant NZ$400 fine, so if in doubt, declare it.
What happens if my flight is delayed or canceled?
We monitor the flight on your reservation, so your driver waits for the actual landing. If your flight number, date or airline changes, or your flight is canceled, update it in Manage your booking so the pickup can be moved.
Can I book a ride back to Auckland Airport?
Yes. Book a one-way departure or a round trip from your hotel, home or cruise ship, and give your flight number and terminal, so the pickup is set for check-in and security.
