Airport Transportation in Cape Town
Pre-booked private transportation takes you directly from Cape Town International Airport to your hotel, resort or vacation rental.
After immigration, baggage claim and customs, continue outside the terminal to the meeting area named in your confirmation. Your vehicle is reserved only for the passengers on your reservation: unlike a shared shuttle, it makes no extra hotel stops for other travelers, and the price is per vehicle, not per person.
Airport transportation in Cape Town takes you from CPT to hotels, guesthouses and vacation rentals in the City Bowl, at the V&A Waterfront, along the Atlantic Seaboard in Camps Bay and out to Stellenbosch and the Cape Winelands.
Cape Town Airport Transfers
For Cape Town airport transfers, your driver waits in the shared arrivals hall on the lower level of the terminal, holding a name board as you come out of the domestic or international arrival area. We follow the flight on your reservation, so the pickup moves with a late landing.
Each Cape Town airport transfer is booked for one vehicle, from a sedan for couples to a van for families and groups, and goes door to door to City Bowl hotels, Waterfront apartments, Camps Bay villas and wine-estate stays in Stellenbosch or Franschhoek.
Cape Town Airport Shuttle
Our Cape Town airport shuttle is a private van for your party only, leaving the terminal as soon as you are through arrivals and driving straight to your address with no other passengers. With room for suitcases, golf bags and surfboards, it suits families and groups heading to the Atlantic Seaboard or the Winelands.
Landing at Cape Town Airport
Cape Town International Airport (CPT), formerly D. F. Malan Airport, is the main airport of Cape Town and the Western Cape. It lies on the Cape Flats east of the city, beside the N2 freeway, and has one central terminal building that links the international area on the north side with the domestic area on the south side. Departures are on the upper level and arrivals on the lower level.
On an international flight you pass passport control first, then collect your bags in the baggage hall, where free trolleys are available, and clear customs into the arrivals hall. Domestic passengers come out into the same arrivals hall.
Cape Town is on South African Standard Time (UTC+2) all year, with no daylight saving time.
Passport rules
Many visitors, including US, UK and Canadian citizens, enter South Africa visa-free for up to 90 days. Your passport must be valid for at least 30 days after you leave and have at least two blank pages. South Africa's online ETA is aimed at visa-required travelers and stays optional for visa-exempt visitors.
South African rand
The currency is the rand (ZAR), and cards are widely accepted in Cape Town.
Seasons are reversed
Summer runs from December to February and the cool, wet winter from June to August, so pack a layer for evenings and wind in any season.

How Cape Town Airport pickup works

- 2

No other stops, no other passengers.
Meet in arrivals
Pre-booked drivers usually wait in the shared arrivals hall on the lower level of the terminal, holding a name board as passengers come out of the domestic and international arrival areas.

Where will my driver meet me at Cape Town Airport?
In the shared arrivals hall on the lower level of the terminal, holding a name board as you come out of the domestic or international arrival area. The meeting point is also in your confirmation.
How far is Cape Town Airport from the city center?
The airport is about 20 km east of the city center, with a direct link along the N2 freeway. The drive to the City Bowl usually takes 20 to 30 minutes in normal traffic, longer at weekday rush hour.
Do domestic and international flights arrive at different terminals?
No. Cape Town International has one central terminal building with an international area and a domestic area, and both lead into the same arrivals hall on the lower level.
Can you take me to the V&A Waterfront?
Yes. We drive door to door to hotels and apartments at the V&A Waterfront and in the City Bowl. Give the hotel name or full address when you book.
Can you take me to Camps Bay or the Atlantic Seaboard?
Yes. Transfers go to hotels, guesthouses and villas in Camps Bay, Clifton, Sea Point and along the Atlantic Seaboard. Add the full address and any gate code when you book.
Can you take me from Cape Town Airport to Stellenbosch or Franschhoek?
Yes. We go to hotels, guest farms and wine-estate stays in Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl. Give the estate name and address, since many sit on farm roads outside town.
Can you pick me up from a vacation rental or guesthouse?
Yes. Give the full street address, the unit number and any gate or intercom instructions when you book, so your driver can find you and load your bags without delay.
Is the MyCiTi airport bus running?
The MyCiTi airport service has been suspended since 1 December 2022, so there is no scheduled public bus from the terminal. A pre-booked transfer takes you straight to your address.
Do I need to stop at the taxi rank or app pickup area?
No. Your ride is already booked, so go straight to your driver in the arrivals hall instead of the taxi rank outside or the e-hailing area in the parkade.
What happens if my flight to Cape Town is delayed?
We follow the flight on your reservation, so your pickup moves with a delayed landing. If your flight number, date or airline changes, or the flight is canceled, update it in Manage your booking as soon as you can.
Can I book a ride back to Cape Town Airport?
Yes. Book a one-way departure or a round trip and give your flight time, so your pickup leaves enough time for check-in and security.
Do I need a visa or ETA to enter South Africa?
Many nationalities, including US, UK and Canadian citizens, can visit South Africa visa-free for up to 90 days, with a passport valid at least 30 days after departure and two blank pages. The online ETA is aimed at visa-required travelers and stays optional for visa-exempt visitors.
What time zone and currency does Cape Town use?
Cape Town is on South African Standard Time (UTC+2) all year, with no daylight saving time. The currency is the South African rand (ZAR).
