Airport Transportation in Montevideo

Pre-booked private transportation takes you directly from Carrasco General Cesáreo L. Berisso International Airport to your hotel, resort or vacation rental.

After immigration, baggage claim and customs, continue outside the terminal to the meeting area named in your confirmation. Your vehicle is reserved only for the passengers on your reservation: unlike a shared shuttle, it makes no extra hotel stops for other travelers, and the price is per vehicle, not per person.

Airport transportation in Montevideo covers the capital and Uruguay's coast: we drive you from Carrasco International Airport to hotels and apartments in Ciudad Vieja, Pocitos, Carrasco and downtown Montevideo, east to Piriápolis, Punta del Este and José Ignacio, and west to Colonia del Sacramento.

Montevideo Airport Transfers

Our Montevideo airport transfers start in the public arrivals hall on the ground floor, just outside the customs and baggage claim exit, where your driver waits with a sign bearing your name. We track your flight, so the driver is there when you land.

You get a fixed price per vehicle before you fly, in sizes from sedans for couples and business travelers to vans for families and groups. Every Montevideo airport transfer goes door to door, whether you are staying at a hotel in Ciudad Vieja, an apartment in Pocitos, a beach rental in Punta del Este or a guesthouse in Colonia del Sacramento.

Montevideo Airport Shuttle

Our Montevideo airport shuttle is a private van for your party only: it leaves as soon as you are through customs and goes straight to your address, with no stops for other passengers. There is room for suitcases and beach gear, so it suits families and groups heading to Punta del Este or José Ignacio for the summer, and business teams going into Montevideo.

Landing at Montevideo Airport

Carrasco General Cesáreo L. Berisso International Airport (MVD), usually called Carrasco International Airport, is Montevideo's airport and Uruguay's main international gateway. It sits in Ciudad de la Costa, in the department of Canelones, next to Montevideo's eastern Carrasco neighborhood and beside the start of the Ruta Interbalnearia to the coast.

All flights use one terminal, opened in 2009, with arrivals and departures on separate floors. You clear immigration, collect your bags (trolleys are available in the baggage hall) and pass customs before entering the ground-floor arrivals hall, where a 24-hour exchange office and the airport information desk are located.

Uruguay stays on UTC−3 all year and does not use daylight saving time.

Montevideo Airport Transportation FAQs

Where will my driver meet me at Montevideo Airport?

Your driver waits in the public arrivals hall on the ground floor, just outside the customs and baggage claim exit, holding a sign with your name.

How far is Montevideo Airport from the city center?

Carrasco International Airport is about 19 km from downtown Montevideo. Travel time depends on traffic on the main avenues into the city, which is heaviest at weekday rush hours.

Is Carrasco Airport in Montevideo?

Not quite. It sits just outside the city limits, in Ciudad de la Costa in the department of Canelones, next to Montevideo's Carrasco neighborhood. It is the main airport serving the capital, and its IATA code is MVD.

Can you take me to Ciudad Vieja, Pocitos or Carrasco?

Yes. We drive you door to door to hotels, apartments and offices in Ciudad Vieja, Pocitos, Carrasco, downtown Montevideo and the rest of the city. Give us the full address when you book.

Can you take me from Montevideo Airport to Punta del Este?

Yes. The Ruta Interbalnearia, the coastal highway east to Punta del Este, starts beside the airport, so your private transfer goes straight to your hotel or rental without going into Montevideo first.

Can you take me to José Ignacio or Piriápolis?

Yes. We drive along the coast to hotels, houses and beach rentals in Piriápolis, José Ignacio and the other towns of Maldonado. Give us the exact address or property name when you book.

Can you take me to Colonia del Sacramento?

Yes. Colonia del Sacramento is west of Montevideo, and a private transfer takes you there directly, without changing vehicles at the Tres Cruces bus terminal with your luggage.

Which terminal will I arrive at in Montevideo?

All flights use the single terminal at Carrasco, opened in 2009, with arrivals on the ground floor. Every airline arrives through the same hall, so there is no terminal to check.

Can you pick me up from an apartment or beach rental?

Yes. Give the building name, apartment number and any concierge or gate instructions when you book, so your driver can find you and load your bags without delay.

What food can I bring into Uruguay?

Uruguayan customs restricts fresh fruit, vegetables, plants, meat and many animal products. Leave snacks behind or declare them when you land.

What documents do I need to enter Uruguay?

You need a valid passport, and some nationalities also need a visa. Citizens of Mercosur countries can enter Uruguay with their national ID card. Check the current rules for your nationality before you travel.

Should I accept rides from people in the arrivals hall?

No. Ignore unsolicited offers inside the terminal and look for your pre-booked driver with your name sign.

Can I book a ride back to Montevideo Airport?

Yes. Book a return from your hotel or apartment in Montevideo, or from Punta del Este, José Ignacio or Colonia del Sacramento. All flights leave from the single terminal.

What time zone and currency does Uruguay use?

Uruguay stays on UTC−3 all year, with no daylight saving time. The currency is the Uruguayan peso (UYU), and a 24-hour exchange office operates in the arrivals hall.

Is Airport Transportation the same as Carrasco General Cesáreo L. Berisso International Airport?

Yes. While their English may not be native-level, drivers have the skills to communicate with passengers.

Are tips mandatory?

Tips are not mandatory but are highly recommended; drivers earn them through service quality.
