Airport Transportation in Oakland
Pre-booked private transportation takes you directly from Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport to your hotel, resort or vacation rental.
After immigration, baggage claim and customs, continue outside the terminal to the meeting area named in your confirmation. Your vehicle is reserved only for the passengers on your reservation: unlike a shared shuttle, it makes no extra hotel stops for other travelers, and the price is per vehicle, not per person.
Our Oakland airport transportation takes you from OAK to downtown Oakland and Jack London Square, Alameda, Berkeley and Emeryville, across the Bay Bridge to San Francisco, and east to Walnut Creek.
Oakland Airport Transfers
Oakland airport transfers start at your terminal, where your driver meets you in baggage claim or at the curb outside, as your confirmation says. We track your flight, so the pickup follows your real landing time, and you choose the vehicle for your party, from a sedan for two to a van for a family or group with luggage.
Each Oakland airport transfer goes door to door to your hotel, home or vacation rental in the East Bay or San Francisco, at a fixed price per vehicle agreed before you fly. Heading to Napa Valley or San Jose? Enter your address in the booking form to see whether a transfer is offered.
Oakland Airport Shuttle
Our Oakland airport shuttle is a private van for your party only, not a shared door-to-door shuttle that stops for other passengers around the Bay Area. It leaves when you have your bags, with room for suitcases and strollers, and suits families, groups and business teams.
Landing at Oakland Airport
Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport (OAK), still widely called Oakland International, sits on the bay shore in Oakland and is run by the Port of Oakland. It has two terminals, joined past security: Terminal 1 for most airlines and all international arrivals, and Terminal 2 for Southwest.
Most flights are domestic, so you go straight to baggage claim in your terminal. Flights from Mexico and El Salvador arrive at Terminal 1, where you clear US Customs and Border Protection before entering the public area.
Oakland is on Pacific Time (UTC-8), and UTC-7 from March to early November. It uses the US dollar.
US entry
International visitors need a US visa or an approved ESTA before they board. Flights from Mexico and El Salvador clear US Customs and Border Protection in Terminal 1.
OAK is not SFO
Despite the San Francisco Bay in its name, Oakland airport (OAK) is a separate airport from San Francisco International (SFO), across the bay. Check the code on your ticket and in your booking.
Bay Bridge tolls
Tolls on the Bay Area bridges are collected electronically and only in one direction; on the Bay Bridge that is westbound into San Francisco.
Rideshare curb
Uber and Lyft pick up on the third curb, in sections 3C2 to 3C9; a pre-booked driver meets you where your confirmation says, not at the rideshare curb.
Before you fly to Oakland
How Oakland Airport pickup works
- 1
Clear arrivals
Immigration, baggage claim, then customs. Representatives can't enter those areas.
- 2
Meet your representative
At the meeting point in your confirmation. Check the company name before getting in.
- 3
Go straight there
No other stops, no other passengers.
Meet in baggage claim or at the curb
Each terminal has its own baggage claim. Pre-booked drivers meet passengers there or at the curb outside the terminal, as the confirmation says.
International arrivals in Terminal 1
Flights from Mexico and El Salvador arrive at Terminal 1, and passengers exit into the public area after US Customs and Border Protection.
Don't accept a ride from someone claiming to know your booking. Check the company name and reservation details before getting in.
Return trips and flight changes
Going back to the airport
Transportation can also be booked from your hotel, resort or vacation rental to Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport. Your pickup time covers the drive plus check-in, security and border procedures, and your airline's instructions come first. Give the correct departure time and terminal when you book.
If your flight changes
We monitor the arrival of the flight on your reservation, but can't find you on a different one. If any of these change, update them in Manage your booking:

Where will my driver meet me at Oakland airport?
In baggage claim of your terminal or at the curb outside, as your confirmation says. Southwest flights use Terminal 2; most other airlines and all international arrivals use Terminal 1.
How far is Oakland airport from downtown Oakland and San Francisco?
The airport is about 7 miles (11 km) south of downtown Oakland, usually 15 to 20 minutes by car. Downtown San Francisco is across the Bay Bridge, about 25 minutes without traffic and much longer at rush hour.
Can you take me to San Francisco?
Yes. We drive across the Bay Bridge to hotels, homes and rentals in San Francisco, including downtown, Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf and the Financial District.
Can you take me to Berkeley or Emeryville?
Yes. We drive to hotels, homes and the UC Berkeley campus area in Berkeley, and to addresses in Emeryville and Albany.
Can you take me to Alameda or Jack London Square?
Yes. We drive to Alameda, just across the estuary from the airport, and to Jack London Square, downtown Oakland and the Oakland ferry terminal.
Can you take me to Walnut Creek?
Yes. We drive east to Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Orinda and other Contra Costa County towns.
Can you take me to Napa Valley or San Jose?
Napa Valley is north of the Bay Area and San Jose is to the south. Enter your address in the booking form to see whether a transfer is offered; if it is not, contact us before you fly.
Which terminal will I arrive at?
Southwest uses Terminal 2. Alaska, Delta Connection, Frontier, Hawaiian, Volaris and Viva Aerobus use Terminal 1, where all international flights arrive. Give us your flight number and we match the pickup to your terminal.
Do you drive to homes and vacation rentals?
Yes. Give the full street address, any unit number and gate or parking details. In San Francisco's steep or narrow streets, your driver stops at the nearest safe point a car can reach.
Can I book a pickup for a late-night or early-morning flight?
Yes. Give your real flight time when you book, so your driver is there when you land. BART and most buses stop around midnight, which makes a pre-booked car easier for late arrivals.
Should I accept rides from people offering them inside the terminal?
No. Use the signed taxi stands, the rideshare curb or the driver named in your confirmation. If someone approaches you, check the company name against your confirmation before getting in.
What happens if my flight is delayed or canceled?
We monitor the flight on your reservation, so your driver waits for the actual landing. If your flight number, date or airline changes, or your flight is canceled, update it in Manage your booking so the pickup can be moved.
Can I book a ride back to Oakland airport?
Yes. Book a one-way departure or a round trip from your hotel or home, and give your flight number and departure time, so the pickup leaves time for check-in and security.
Do I pay the Bay Bridge toll?
Bay Area bridge tolls are collected electronically, and only in one direction; on the Bay Bridge that is westbound into San Francisco. Your driver handles the bridge crossing, so there is no toll booth to stop at.
Is Airport Transportation the same as Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport?
No. Airport Transportation is a private transfer service that books rides from OAK; we are not the airport or its operator, the Port of Oakland. For terminals, airlines and other ways to get around, see our Oakland airport page.

Do children pay differently than adults?
No. Prices are set per passenger range or per vehicle, not per age.
Is my reservation refundable?

Do drivers speak English?
Yes. While their English may not be native-level, drivers have the skills to communicate with passengers.
Are tips mandatory?
Tips are not mandatory but are highly recommended; drivers earn them through service quality.
What currencies are accepted?
All prices are in USD. If your card is in another currency, your bank converts the charge at its own exchange rate.
Are pets allowed?
We can transport domestic pets kept in cages that fit in a normal vehicle.
Is there room for luggage?
Yes. There is plenty of room for one suitcase and one carry-on per person.
