Airport Transportation in Tegucigalpa
Pre-booked private transportation takes you directly from Palmerola International Airport to your hotel, resort or vacation rental.
After immigration, baggage claim and customs, continue outside the terminal to the meeting area named in your confirmation. Your vehicle is reserved only for the passengers on your reservation: unlike a shared shuttle, it makes no extra hotel stops for other travelers, and the price is per vehicle, not per person.
Since December 2021 international flights to Tegucigalpa land at Palmerola in the Comayagua valley, so your driver brings you from there to your address in the capital, or to Comayagua, Lake Yojoa or San Pedro Sula if you are heading elsewhere.
Tegucigalpa Airport Transfers
A pre-booked private transfer is the simplest way to cover the road from Palmerola into Tegucigalpa: the vehicle is reserved for your party, the driver waits for your flight, and you go straight to your hotel, home or office without waiting for a shared van to fill.
It suits business travelers heading to meetings in the capital, families with children and luggage, and visitors who land in the evening and would rather not arrange a ride in the arrivals hall. We can also take you from Palmerola to Comayagua's colonial center, to Lake Yojoa, or north to San Pedro Sula, and back to the airport for your departure.
Tegucigalpa Airport Shuttle
The shuttles sold at the counters in Palmerola's arrivals hall are shared: you buy a seat and the van leaves once it fills, stopping for other passengers along the way. Our private shuttle is a van booked for your group alone, which leaves when you are ready and drops everyone at one address. It suits families, teams and groups of friends traveling together to Tegucigalpa.
Landing at Tegucigalpa Airport
Tegucigalpa's international flights arrive at Palmerola International Airport (XPL), in the Comayagua valley of central Honduras, next to the Soto Cano air base. Toncontín (TGU), inside the city, now handles domestic flights only.
Palmerola has a single passenger terminal with boarding bridges. After you leave the aircraft, follow the signs to immigration (Migración); automated kiosks and eGates currently serve Honduran citizens, so most visitors queue at the staffed desks. Then collect your bags and pass through customs (Aduanas) into the public arrivals hall, where taxi, shuttle and car-rental counters are located and where pre-booked drivers wait.
Honduras keeps Central Standard Time (UTC−6) all year with no daylight saving time. The Comayagua valley sits lower than Tegucigalpa and is usually warmer on arrival.
- Passport and migration pre-check: bring a valid passport, and check before you fly whether your nationality must complete the online pre-check (prechequeo) on the portal of Honduras's National Migration Institute (INM). Requirements vary by nationality.
- Check which airport you land at: international flights use Palmerola (XPL), while domestic flights use Toncontín (TGU) in the city. Give the airport and flight number on your booking so your driver is in the right place.
- Approaches in the terminal: decline ride offers from people who approach you inside the terminal and go to the meeting point in your confirmation.
- Currency: Honduras uses the lempira (HNL); carry some local cash for small purchases once you leave the airport.

How Tegucigalpa Airport pickup works

Clear arrivals
Immigration, baggage claim, then customs. Representatives can't enter those areas.
- 2
Meet your representative
At the meeting point in your confirmation. Check the company name before getting in.
- 3
Go straight there
No other stops, no other passengers.
Meet in arrivals
Pre-booked drivers meet passengers in the public arrivals hall after customs, usually holding a name sign.
Don't accept a ride from someone claiming to know your booking. Check the company name and reservation details before getting in.

Which airport do international flights to Tegucigalpa use?

It took over the capital's international passenger flights in December 2021, and Toncontín (TGU), inside the city, now handles domestic flights. If you are flying in from abroad, book your transfer from Palmerola.
I'm flying in on a domestic flight. Which airport do I arrive at?
Domestic flights to Tegucigalpa use Toncontín (TGU), inside the city, not Palmerola. Check the arrival airport on your ticket before you book. You can read more about Toncontín on our Toncontín airport page.

Yes. Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Palmerola and takes you directly to your hotel, home or office in Tegucigalpa, with no stops for other passengers. Give the full address when you book.
Do you go from Palmerola to Comayagua?
Yes. Comayagua is the closest city to Palmerola, and we can take you to your hotel near its colonial center or anywhere else in town. Many travelers stop there before continuing to Tegucigalpa or north.
Can I book a transfer from Palmerola to Lake Yojoa or San Pedro Sula?

Where will my driver meet me at Palmerola?
Your driver waits in the public arrivals hall after customs, usually holding a sign with your name. Palmerola has one terminal, so there is only one arrivals hall. The exact meeting point is in your confirmation.

Some nationalities must complete Honduras's online migration pre-check (prechequeo) on the National Migration Institute (INM) portal before travel. Requirements vary by nationality, so check the INM site or your airline before you fly.
Which airlines fly to Palmerola?
