About Hollywood Burbank Airport

Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) is a domestic airport in Burbank, California, serving the San Fernando Valley and the north side of Los Angeles in the United States. It sits about 3 miles (5 km) northwest of downtown Burbank, and handled about 6.3 million passengers in 2025.

Southwest Airlines runs most flights, with nonstops to cities such as Las Vegas, Denver, Phoenix, Chicago, Oakland and Sacramento. Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, JetBlue, Allegiant Air, Breeze Airways and Frontier Airlines add routes to Seattle, Dallas, Atlanta, New York and smaller western cities. There are no scheduled international flights.

Since 13 October 2026, all flights use a single new terminal with 14 gates on the northeast side of the airfield, entered from Hollywood Way at Winona Avenue. Passengers still board and leave aircraft outdoors, without jet bridges, and bags arrive in one indoor baggage claim hall.

From the airport, travelers head to Burbank's studios and downtown, Universal City, Hollywood, Glendale, Pasadena and downtown Los Angeles.

Arrival tips for Hollywood Burbank Airport

All scheduled flights at Burbank are domestic, so there is no immigration or customs on arrival. If you are flying in from abroad, you clear US immigration and customs at your first US airport before connecting to Burbank.

Aircraft park on the apron and you walk down stairs or a ramp and across to the terminal, as Burbank has no jet bridges, so have a jacket handy on cool or wet days. Follow the signs to baggage claim, a single indoor hall with three carousels in the new terminal that opened in October 2026.

Outside the terminal, rideshare apps pick up at a dedicated lot near the terminal, rental car shuttles run to the rental car center across Hollywood Way, and the Burbank Airport-North Metrolink station is reached on foot or by an on-demand shuttle. Directions written before October 2026 that mention Terminal A, Terminal B or the Thornton Avenue entrance are out of date. Pre-booked drivers meet passengers at baggage claim or the pickup point in their confirmation.

Ground transportation

A rideshare or pre-booked car suits most travelers with luggage; Metrolink works well for downtown Los Angeles and Union Station.

Frequently asked questions

Is Burbank airport the same as Bob Hope Airport?

Yes. Bob Hope Airport has been the airport's legal name since 2003, and it has been branded Hollywood Burbank Airport since 2017. Both names, and Burbank Airport, refer to the same airport, code BUR, in Burbank, California. It is a different airport from Los Angeles International (LAX) and from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood in Florida, so check the code on your ticket.

How far is Burbank airport from downtown Burbank?

Hollywood Burbank Airport is about 3 miles (5 km) northwest of downtown Burbank, along Hollywood Way and the I-5 corridor. The ride is usually short outside rush hour. Universal City, Hollywood and Glendale are farther south and east, and downtown Los Angeles is reached by the I-5 freeway or Metrolink trains to Union Station.

Does Burbank airport have a new terminal?

Yes. A new terminal opened on 13 October 2026 on the northeast side of the airfield, replacing the old Terminals A and B that dated back to 1930. It has 14 gates, one ticketing hall, one central TSA checkpoint and one indoor baggage claim hall with three carousels. The main entrance moved to Hollywood Way at Winona Avenue.

How many terminals does Burbank airport have?

Burbank has one passenger terminal. Since 13 October 2026 every airline uses the new 14-gate terminal, so there is no terminal to choose and no need to change terminals between flights. Older guides that mention Terminal A and Terminal B describe the previous building, which has closed to passengers.

Does Burbank airport have international flights?

No. All scheduled flights at Hollywood Burbank Airport are domestic, so there is no immigration or customs hall for airline passengers. If you are coming from abroad, you clear US immigration and customs at your first US airport, such as LAX or San Francisco, then connect to Burbank on a domestic flight.

Which airlines fly to Burbank airport?

Southwest Airlines runs the most flights at Burbank. Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, JetBlue, Allegiant Air, Breeze Airways and Frontier Airlines also fly here, and JSX operates semi-private flights. Routes reach Las Vegas, Seattle, Denver, Phoenix, Dallas, Atlanta, New York and many other US cities.

Are there jet bridges at Burbank airport?

No. Even in the new terminal, passengers board and leave aircraft outdoors, walking across the apron and using stairs or ramps. Allow for this if you are traveling with small children or heavy carry-on bags, and ask your airline in advance for help if you cannot manage stairs, so a lift or ramp can be arranged.

Where do rideshares pick up at Burbank airport?

Uber and Lyft pick up at a dedicated rideshare lot near the new terminal, opened with the terminal in October 2026. Follow the rideshare signs from baggage claim. Taxis wait in the ground transportation area outside the terminal, and rental car customers take a shuttle to the rental car center across Hollywood Way.

Is there a train from Burbank airport?

Yes. Burbank Airport-North station, on the Metrolink Antelope Valley Line, is linked to the new terminal by a walking path and an on-demand shuttle. Trains run to downtown Burbank, Glendale and Los Angeles Union Station. Burbank Airport-South station, served by Amtrak and the Metrolink Ventura County Line, is near the rental car center.

Where are the rental cars at Burbank airport?

Rental car companies are in the consolidated rental car center across Hollywood Way from the airfield. Shuttles run between the new terminal and the rental car center, so follow the rental car signs after you collect your bags. Return your car to the same center and take the shuttle back to the terminal.

Where can I park at Burbank airport?

A new seven-level parking garage with more than 2,000 spaces stands directly across from the terminal entrance and has EV chargers. Valet parking operates at the new terminal, and long-term lots around the airport are linked by shuttle. Lot E closed permanently when the new terminal opened in October 2026.

What ID do I need to fly from Burbank airport?

For domestic flights, adults need a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or state ID, a passport or another TSA-accepted document at security. International visitors use their passport. Burbank has one central TSA checkpoint in the new terminal, so allow time at busy morning and evening departure peaks.

What time zone is Burbank airport in?

Hollywood Burbank Airport is on Pacific Time, the same as the rest of California. Clocks move forward one hour for daylight saving time from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November. Arrival and departure times on your ticket are always local Burbank time.
