Sacramento International Airport (SMF) is the main airport for Sacramento, the capital of California, and for the wider Sacramento Valley in the United States. It stands among farmland about 10.5 miles (16.9 km) northwest of downtown Sacramento, reached from Interstate 5 by Airport Boulevard.
Southwest Airlines flies the most routes, linking Sacramento with cities across the West, Texas, the Midwest and Hawaii. Alaska Airlines, American, Delta, United, Frontier, Hawaiian Airlines and JetBlue add flights to their hubs and to the East Coast, while Aeroméxico and Volaris fly to Guadalajara and other cities in Mexico, and Air Canada serves Vancouver and Toronto. The airport handled about 13.9 million passengers in 2025.
There are two terminals in separate buildings. Terminal A serves Air Canada, American, Delta and United, and Terminal B serves the other airlines, including all international arrivals from Mexico; an automated people mover links Terminal B with its airside concourse.
From the airport, most travelers head to downtown Sacramento, Old Sacramento and the State Capitol, Natomas and West Sacramento, or west to Davis and UC Davis. Others continue to Roseville and the Sierra foothills, the Napa Valley wine country or Lake Tahoe.

Flights from within the United States, and from Toronto and Vancouver, where passengers clear US border checks before boarding, arrive as domestic flights with no passport control at Sacramento. Flights from Mexico arrive at Terminal B, where you go through US Customs and Border Protection in the International Arrivals facility; visitors need an ESTA or a US visa, depending on nationality.
Check which terminal your airline uses: Terminal A and Terminal B are separate buildings. In Terminal B, arriving passengers ride the people mover from the concourse to the landside building and go down to baggage claim on the first level. In Terminal A, baggage claim is on the ground level. Airport Ambassadors staff the information desks in each baggage claim.
Taxis wait in the ground transportation area next to baggage claim, and Uber, Lyft and Wingz pick up at the ground transportation curb. Rental car shuttles run 24 hours a day to the consolidated rental car facility. The terminal curb is for active loading only, so drivers collecting you cannot wait there.
