About Kaohsiung International Airport

Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH) is the main gateway to Kaohsiung and southern Taiwan, in the Xiaogang District on the southern side of the city. China Airlines and EVA Air both fly from here, alongside Tigerair Taiwan and many regional airlines, with routes to Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, Southeast Asia and cities in mainland China. Uni Air, Mandarin Airlines and Daily Air link Kaohsiung with Taiwan's outlying islands, including Penghu and Kinmen, and with Hualien.

The airport has two terminals side by side, joined by a corridor: the International Terminal for international and cross-strait flights, and the older Domestic Terminal for flights within Taiwan.

The airport sits about 8 km from central Kaohsiung. The Kaohsiung Metro Red Line stops at Kaohsiung International Airport Station (R4), beneath the terminals, and runs north to Kaohsiung Main Station and Zuoying, where the Taiwan High Speed Rail stops. By road, downtown is usually 20 to 30 minutes away without traffic.

From the airport, travelers head to the Love River and Pier-2 Art Center, Cijin Island, Lotus Pond and Zuoying, the Fo Guang Shan Monastery, and further south to Kenting at the tip of Taiwan.

Arrival tips for Kaohsiung International Airport

Before you fly, complete the Taiwan Arrival Card online; paper arrival cards were discontinued on 1 October 2025, and the online card can be submitted up to three days before arrival. Many nationalities can enter Taiwan visa-free for a set period.

International flights arrive at the International Terminal. Follow the Arrivals signs to immigration, collect your bags in the baggage claim hall and pass through customs into the arrival hall on the 1st floor. Taiwan is strict about meat products, so do not carry any. Flights from Penghu, Kinmen and other domestic points arrive at the Domestic Terminal, whose arrival lobby is also on the 1st floor, next door.

Taxi stands are outside the 1st-floor arrival exits of both terminals, and bus stops are on the curb outside. The Kaohsiung Metro station is below the terminals: use Exit 6 for the International Terminal or Exit 2 for the Domestic Terminal. Car rental counters are across the road from Exit 7 of the International Terminal.

Taiwan is on UTC+8 all year with no daylight saving time, and the currency is the New Taiwan dollar (TWD).

Ground transportation

The metro suits light travelers heading downtown or to the high-speed rail at Zuoying, while taxis and pre-booked transfers go door to door.

Do I need a visa to visit Taiwan?

It depends on your nationality. Citizens of many countries can enter Taiwan visa-free for a set period, while others need a visa or an online travel authorization before they fly. Your passport should be valid for at least six months from arrival. Check the current rules with Taiwan's Bureau of Consular Affairs before you travel.
