About Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport

Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport (GRX) is the airport for Granada and Jaén, in Andalusia, Spain, named after the Granada-born poet. It sits near Chauchina and Santa Fe, about 15 km (9 miles) west of Granada and about 100 km south of Jaén. It is a small airport, with around one million passengers a year before the pandemic.

Most flights are domestic. Vueling flies to Barcelona, Bilbao, Palma, the Canary Islands and Paris Orly; Iberia to Madrid and Melilla; Binter Canarias to Gran Canaria and Tenerife; Air Europa to Palma; and Volotea to Asturias and, from November 2026, Porto. Transavia connects Granada with Amsterdam.

All flights use a single terminal with one runway, so arrival is usually quick.

From the airport, most visitors head into Granada for the Alhambra, the Albaicín and the cathedral, up to the Sierra Nevada ski resort, down to the Costa Tropical around Almuñécar and Salobreña, or north to Jaén.

Arrival tips for Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport

All flights arrive at the single terminal. Most come from elsewhere in Spain, so there are no passport checks. If you fly in from outside the Schengen area, you go through passport control, where non-EU visitors are registered in the EU's Entry/Exit System. The terminal is small, so baggage claim is usually quick.

Once you have your bags, follow the signs out of the arrivals hall to the bus stop, the taxi rank and the car rental desks. An airport bus runs into Granada, timed around the flights, and taxis wait outside the terminal. There is no train to the airport. Pre-booked drivers usually meet you in the arrivals hall.

If you plan to visit the Alhambra, book your tickets well ahead, as they often sell out.

Spain is on Central European Time (CET) and uses the euro. Granada sits high in the hills, so evenings can be cool even when days are warm.
