About Frankfurt Main Airport

Frankfurt Airport (FRA), officially Flughafen Frankfurt Main, serves Frankfurt am Main and the Rhine-Main region in Germany. It is the busiest airport in Germany and handled about 63.2 million passengers in 2025.

Lufthansa's main hub is here, with flights across Europe and long-haul routes to North and South America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Star Alliance partners such as United Airlines, Air Canada, Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines add more links, while Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, British Airways, Air France and KLM serve their own hubs. Condor and Discover Airlines fly to holiday destinations worldwide.

Passengers use Terminal 1, home of Lufthansa and most Star Alliance airlines, and Terminal 3, which opened in April 2026 for most other airlines. Terminal 2 closed in June 2026 for renovation. The SkyLine train links the terminals.

The airport sits about 12 kilometers southwest of central Frankfurt, where the A3 and A5 motorways meet, and has its own regional and long-distance train stations. From here travelers head to Frankfurt, Mainz and Wiesbaden, and by ICE train to Cologne, Heidelberg, Stuttgart and other German cities.

Arrival tips for Frankfurt Main Airport

After landing, follow the signs to passport control if you arrive from outside the Schengen Area. Germany is in the Schengen Area: if you hold a non-EU passport, the Entry/Exit System (EES), fully in place since April 2026, records your fingerprints and photo at passport control, and the ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Flights from other Schengen countries skip passport control.

Collect your bags and pass through customs into the arrivals area of Terminal 1 or Terminal 3. Terminal 2 closed in June 2026, so check your arrival terminal before arranging a meeting point.

Taxi ranks operate around the clock at Terminal 1, Terminal 3 and the long-distance train station. Uber pickups are at short-term parking P31 at Terminal 1 and at the charter bus lane P62 at Terminal 3. Pre-booked drivers wait in the public arrivals area with a name sign. The regional train station is under Terminal 1; from Terminal 3, take the SkyLine first. Use only marked taxis from the official ranks.

Frankfurt runs on Central European Time and uses the euro. Winters are cool and damp, and summers are warm.
