Practical information
BaggageCabin bags, checked bags, missing luggage
Air India baggage allowances depend on the cabin, the fare type, the route and Maharaja Club tier. Your e-ticket shows the allowance that applies.
Economy and Premium Economy passengers can bring one cabin bag of up to 7 kg (15 lb) and 55 × 40 × 20 cm, plus one personal item of up to 3 kg that fits under the seat. First and Business passengers can bring one cabin bag of up to 10 kg (22 lb) plus one personal item.
The allowance depends on fare and route. Flights to and from Europe, the United States, Canada, Japan and South Korea use the piece concept; domestic flights and most routes in Asia, the Gulf and Australia use a weight allowance.
Sports equipment, pets, bulky items and medical equipment follow separate rules. Check the official Air India baggage page before you fly.
Check-in and boardingSteps before departure
Online check-in on airindia.com or the Air India app opens 48 hours before departure. It closes about one hour before domestic flights and earlier for international flights, so follow the deadline shown in your booking.

Review passport, visa and entry requirements for your destination.

Airport check-in counters generally open three hours before departure. Allow time for bag drop, security and, on international flights, immigration.
Lounges
Air India opened its flagship Maharaja Lounge on the international pier of Delhi Terminal 3 in February 2026, and uses its own and partner lounges at other airports. Access depends on cabin, Maharaja Club or Star Alliance status, and the itinerary. Check the location and opening hours before you travel.

Maharaja Club is Air India's loyalty program. Members earn Maharaja Points on Air India, Air India Express and Star Alliance flights and with partner businesses, and redeem them for award flights and upgrades.
