About Girona-Costa Brava Airport

Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO) is the airport for Girona and the Costa Brava in Catalonia, northeast Spain. It stands beside the village of Vilobí d'Onyar, about 12.5 km (8 miles) southwest of Girona city center and about 74 km north of central Barcelona.

Most flights are international and seasonal, busiest from spring to fall. Ryanair flies the most routes, to the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Poland and other European countries, while Jet2.com, Transavia, Luxair and charter airlines add summer flights. The airport handled about 2.2 million passengers in 2025.

All flights use one two-story terminal: check-in and the arrivals hall are on the ground floor, and security and the 11 boarding gates are on the first floor.

From the airport, travelers head into Girona's old town, to the beach resorts of Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar and Blanes, to Platja d'Aro, Palamós and Begur further up the coast, and north to Figueres and Roses. Others continue south to Barcelona, which buses timed to the flights reach in about 1 hour 15 minutes.

Arrival tips for Girona-Costa Brava Airport

Flights from Spain and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks. If you come from outside the Schengen area, such as the UK, Ireland or Morocco, you line up at passport control, where non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES).

Girona has one terminal, so there is no terminal to choose: after baggage claim you walk through customs into the arrivals hall on the ground floor. Signs are in Catalan, Spanish and English.

For onward travel, follow the signs outside the terminal. Buses to Barcelona's Estació del Nord leave about 20 to 25 minutes after each flight arrives, line 607 runs to Girona's bus and train station, and other lines serve the Costa Brava resorts, with more departures in summer. Official taxis wait at the taxi stand outside, and pre-booked drivers usually meet you in the arrivals hall.

Spain is on Central European Time and uses the euro.

Ground transportation

Buses suit travelers headed for Barcelona or Girona; a taxi or pre-booked car is easier for the Costa Brava resorts, with luggage or on late flights.

Girona-Costa Brava Airport is about 12.5 km (8 miles) southwest of Girona city center, beside the village of Vilobí d'Onyar. Bus line 607 reaches Girona's bus and train station in about 20 to 30 minutes, and taxis and pre-booked cars wait outside the terminal for the short drive into the old town.

How far is Girona airport from Barcelona?

Girona-Costa Brava Airport is about 74 km north of central Barcelona. Sagalés buses run to Barcelona's Estació del Nord, leaving about 20 to 25 minutes after each flight lands and taking about 1 hour 15 minutes. A taxi or pre-booked car drives door to door, which is easier with luggage or late at night.

Is Girona airport the same as Barcelona airport?

No. Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO) is a separate airport about 74 km north of Barcelona, sometimes sold as Barcelona Girona. Barcelona's main airport is Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat (BCN), south of the city. Check the three-letter code on your ticket, because the two airports are more than an hour apart by road.

How do I get from Girona airport to Lloret de Mar?

Buses run from Girona airport to Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar and Blanes, with more departures in the summer season. A taxi from the official stand or a pre-booked car takes you door to door to your hotel or apartment, which is easier with luggage, children or a late arrival when buses are fewer.

Is there a train from Girona airport?

No. There is no train station at the terminal. Bus line 607 takes you to Girona's bus station, next to the train and high-speed rail station, in about 20 to 30 minutes. From there, trains run to Barcelona, Figueres and France. The nearest small rail stop, Riudellots, is about 4 km away.

How many terminals does Girona airport have?

Girona-Costa Brava Airport has one two-story terminal for all flights. Check-in desks and the arrivals hall are on the ground floor, and security and the 11 boarding gates are on the first floor. All arriving passengers, from Schengen and non-Schengen flights, exit into the same arrivals hall.

Which airlines fly to Girona?

Ryanair flies the most routes from Girona, to the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Poland and other European countries. Jet2.com adds seasonal UK flights, Transavia flies to the Netherlands, Luxair to Luxembourg and Air Arabia to Tangier, and charter airlines such as Enter Air and Smartwings fly from Poland in summer.

Where can I take a taxi at Girona airport?

Official taxis wait at the taxi stand outside the terminal. They charge by the meter, with urban fares inside Vilobí d'Onyar and the Generalitat de Catalunya intercity fare beyond it, and supplements are added to the meter. Luggage that fits in the trunk travels free. Taxis Vilobí d'Onyar serves the stand.

What do I need to enter Spain at Girona airport?

Spain is in the Schengen area, so flights from other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks. Arrivals from outside it, such as the UK, Ireland and Morocco, go through passport control, where non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026. Check the visa rules for your nationality.

Is there a lounge at Girona airport?

Aena does not list a public airline or pay-per-use lounge at Girona-Costa Brava Airport. The boarding area on the first floor has cafés, a duty-free shop, charging points and two children's play areas, and free Wi-Fi covers the whole terminal, so most travelers wait for their flight at the gates.

Where can I park at Girona airport?

Aena runs the parking at Girona airport: the General parking lot beside the terminal, which you can book ahead online, an Express area for short stays, drop-offs and pickups, and motorcycle parking. Access to these three without a booking is guaranteed, though booking ahead secures a space in busy summer weeks.

What assistance is available for passengers with reduced mobility?

Aena's free Barrier Free service helps passengers with reduced mobility through Girona airport. Request it at least 48 hours ahead through your airline, the Aena website or app, or on +34 913 211 000. Meeting points are at the curb, in the parking areas and inside the terminal, with a counter on Level 0 by check-in.

Why is Girona airport busier in summer?

Girona-Costa Brava Airport serves the beach resorts of the Costa Brava, so many routes run only from spring to fall, when Ryanair, Jet2.com, Transavia and charter airlines add flights. In winter there are fewer airlines and destinations, and buses to the coast run less often, so check timetables if you travel off season.
