About Marrakesh Menara Airport

Marrakesh Menara Airport (RAK) is the international airport of Marrakesh, Morocco. Royal Air Maroc flies from here to Casablanca, other Moroccan cities, France, Spain and Belgium, while Ryanair, easyJet, Transavia, Jet2 and Wizz Air link the city with much of Europe. Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines connect it to Doha and Istanbul, and Delta and United run seasonal flights to the United States.

The airport has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, in one connected building, and a single runway. It is run by Airports of Morocco (ONDA) and handles about 28% of the country's air traffic.

The airport sits about 6 km southwest of the city center, and a taxi to the Medina takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Bus 19 runs from the airport to Jemaa el-Fna and the train station.

From here, most travelers head to the Medina and Jemaa el-Fna, the Gueliz district, the Palmeraie, and the Atlas Mountains to the south.

Arrival tips for Marrakesh Menara Airport

After landing, you go through passport control. Citizens of the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and EU countries can stay up to 90 days without a visa; others need a visa in advance, and your passport should be valid for six months after arrival.

Collect your bags in the baggage hall and pass customs into the arrivals hall, where you will find currency exchange offices and ATMs.

Taxis wait at the rank outside the terminal. A fare table is posted, but agree the price with the driver before you set off. Drivers may approach you inside the hall, so stick to the official rank. Pre-booked drivers wait just outside the arrivals hall with a name sign. Bus 19 stops across the parking lot, near the car rental signs.

Marrakesh is hot and dry in summer and mild in winter. Morocco has used GMT (UTC+0) year-round since 20 September 2026, with no daylight saving time, and the currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD), a closed currency best obtained on arrival.

Ground transportation

A taxi or pre-booked transfer suits most travelers, since the Medina is only about 15 to 20 minutes away by car.

Taxi from Marrakesh airport

Petit taxis carrying up to three passengers wait at the rank outside the terminal, and grand taxis take larger groups. The ride to the Medina takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Drivers often do not use the meter, so agree the price before setting off.

Bus 19 to Jemaa el-Fna

Bus 19 stops across the parking lot outside arrivals and runs about every 20 to 30 minutes, less often on weekends. It reaches Jemaa el-Fna in about 30 minutes, then loops on to the train station. It is slower than a taxi, especially to the train station.

Private transfer

Pre-booked drivers meet passengers outside the arrivals hall with a name sign. It needs booking ahead but avoids negotiating at the taxi rank and suits trips to the Palmeraie or the Atlas Mountains.

Car rental

Budget, Europcar, Hertz and several local companies have rental offices at the airport, and there is an on-site car park. Driving into the Medina itself is difficult, so a car suits trips outside the city better.

Marrakesh Menara Airport is about 6 km southwest of the city center. A taxi to the Medina and Jemaa el-Fna takes about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic. Bus 19 takes about 30 minutes to reach Jemaa el-Fna, and runs about every 20 to 30 minutes from a stop across the airport parking lot.

Is Marrakesh airport in the city?

Yes. Menara Airport is on the southwestern edge of Marrakesh, about 6 km from the city center, so a taxi to the Medina usually takes only 15 to 20 minutes. The Palmeraie, on the northern edge of the city, is farther away, and the Atlas Mountains lie to the south of Marrakesh.

How many terminals does Marrakesh airport have?

The airport has two passenger terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, which form one connected building. Terminal 1 handles most international flights, and Terminal 2 is mainly used for domestic flights and some low-cost airlines. You can walk between the two inside the building, so a change of terminal is simple.

Which airlines fly to Marrakesh Menara Airport?

Ryanair, easyJet, Transavia, Jet2 and Wizz Air fly from Marrakesh to many European cities. Royal Air Maroc connects it with Casablanca, France, Spain and Belgium, while British Airways, Air France, Iberia, Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines also serve the airport. Delta and United run seasonal flights to Atlanta and Newark.

How do I get a taxi at Marrakesh airport?

Taxis wait at the rank outside the arrivals hall. Petit taxis carry up to three passengers, and grand taxis take larger groups. A fare table is posted near the rank, but drivers often do not use the meter, so agree the price before you set off. The trip to the Medina takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

Is there a bus from Marrakesh airport to Jemaa el-Fna?

Yes. Bus 19 runs from the airport to Jemaa el-Fna about every 20 to 30 minutes, less often on weekends, and continues to the train station before looping back. The stop is across the parking lot outside arrivals, near the car rental signs. The ride to Jemaa el-Fna takes about 30 minutes.

Can I rent a car at Marrakesh airport?

Yes. Budget, Europcar, Hertz and several local companies have rental offices at the airport, and there is an on-site car park with more than 1,000 spaces. A car is useful for trips to the Atlas Mountains, but driving and parking in the Medina is difficult, so most visitors staying there go by taxi.

Do I need a visa to visit Morocco?

Citizens of the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and EU countries can enter Morocco without a visa for up to 90 days. Travelers from other countries, including South Africa, must apply through a Moroccan embassy or consulate. Your passport should be valid for at least six months after your arrival date.

How do I get from Marrakesh airport to the Palmeraie?

How do I get from Marrakesh airport to the Atlas Mountains?

The High Atlas, including the Ourika Valley and the village of Imlil, lies south of Marrakesh. No bus runs directly from the airport to the mountains, so travelers usually take a grand taxi, a rental car or a pre-booked transfer. A rental car also makes it easier to stop at villages along the way.

What time zone and currency does Marrakesh use?

Morocco has used GMT (UTC+0) year-round since 20 September 2026, with no daylight saving time. The currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD), a closed currency, so get cash from the ATMs or exchange offices at the airport. Marrakesh is hot and dry in summer and mild in winter, with cool nights.
