Rovaniemi Airport (RVN) serves Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland in northern Finland. Finavia operates the airport, and it handled about 1.12 million passengers in 2025.
Finnair and Norwegian fly year-round to Helsinki, and Ryanair links the city with Milan–Bergamo. Most other flights are winter routes timed for the Christmas and snow season: easyJet, Ryanair, TUI Airways and Jet2.com fly from many UK airports, and Lufthansa, Eurowings, KLM, Air France, Austrian Airlines, Edelweiss Air, Iberia, Vueling, Turkish Airlines and others add seasonal links from mainland Europe and Istanbul.
Everything runs through one terminal with check-in, a departures hall expanded in 2025, and jet bridges, which are rare at Finnish airports. The airport lies about 10 km north of Rovaniemi city center and about 2–3 km from Santa Claus Village and Santa Park.
From the airport, most travelers head to Rovaniemi city center, Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle, Santa Park, the Pyhä-Luosto fells, and other Lapland ski and wilderness areas.

Arrival tips for Rovaniemi Airport
Flights from Helsinki and other Schengen airports arrive as domestic-style flights with no passport check. If you fly in from the UK, Turkey, Israel or another non-Schengen country, you go through passport control in the terminal. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation.
Baggage claim is a short walk from the gate, and winter flights bring a lot of skis, strollers and bulky bags, so allow a little extra time at the belt when several flights land together.
Outside the exit, taxis wait at the airport, and the Airport Express bus runs via Santa Claus Village to hotels in the city center and the railway station. A separate bus goes from the airport to Pyhä-Luosto. Pre-booked drivers and tour company staff usually wait in the arrivals hall.
Rovaniemi is on Eastern European Time (UTC+2, UTC+3 in summer), Finland uses the euro, and winters are cold and snowy, so keep warm layers in your hand luggage.
Ground transportation
The Airport Express bus suits most travelers headed to central hotels or Santa Claus Village, while a taxi is simplest with luggage or outside the winter season.

Airport Express bus
The airport bus runs between the airport, Santa Claus Village, the railway station and several city center hotels, with tickets paid on board by card. Timetables are published on airportbus.fi; service is reduced outside winter.
Bus to Pyhä-Luosto
A direct bus runs from the airport to the Pyhä-Luosto fells, four times a day in winter and twice a day in summer. Check the timetable on Pyhä's website before you travel.
Rideshare
Uber has operated in Rovaniemi since December 2023. Fewer cars are available than in larger cities, so a taxi is often quicker at busy times.
Private transfer
A pre-booked driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to your hotel, cabin or tour base. It suits families and groups with winter gear but needs your flight details in advance.
Car rental
Avis, Sixt, Hertz, Europcar and Green Motion serve the airport. Roads are snowy and icy for much of the winter, so drive with care.
