Arrival tips for Skopje International Airport
North Macedonia is not part of the EU or the Schengen area, so the EU Entry/Exit System does not apply here; you go through North Macedonian passport control, where EU and Schengen citizens can show a national ID card and other travelers should check visa rules with the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
After passport control, collect your bags in the baggage hall and pass through customs into the arrivals hall. The terminal is compact, and car rental desks for the airport's 22 rental agencies are close by.
Taxis wait at the terminal exit around the clock. Airport Taxi, with white cars numbered 1 to 65, is the only company authorized to pick up passengers here, and its regulated fares are posted at the exit. The shuttle bus to Skopje runs on a timetable set around flight arrivals. If you have a pre-booked driver, look for your name sign in the arrivals hall.
North Macedonia uses Central European Time (UTC+1, UTC+2 in summer) and the Macedonian denar. Summers are hot and dry, and winters can be cold.
Ground transportation
The authorized airport taxi or a pre-booked transfer suits most travelers, while the shuttle bus works for daytime arrivals heading into central Skopje.

Book a transfer from SKPTaxi from Skopje airport
Airport Taxi is the only company authorized to carry passengers from the airport, and its white cars wait at the terminal exit 24 hours a day. Fares follow a regulated list posted at the exit and inside each car.
Shuttle bus to Skopje
An airport shuttle bus runs to key stops in Skopje on a timetable set around flight arrivals, taking about 30 to 40 minutes to the center. It runs only from 08:00 to 20:00, so it may not suit very early or late flights.
Private transfer
A pre-booked driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you directly to your address. This is the most practical choice for the roughly 200 km drive to Ohrid.
Rental car
There are 22 rental agencies at the airport. A car is useful for trips to Ohrid and other parts of the country, but you will need to pay attention to mountain roads.

Is Skopje airport in Skopje?
Not quite. The airport is in Petrovec, a separate municipality southeast of the capital, about 22 km from the city center. It is sometimes called Petrovec Airport for this reason. It is still the main airport for Skopje and the larger of North Macedonia's two international airports, the other being in Ohrid in the southwest of the country.
How many terminals does Skopje airport have?
Skopje International Airport has one passenger terminal, which handles all scheduled flights.
